  • A VISIT to an orphanage which required immediate ATTENTION!!
A few members of UHF found an orphanage located deep interior of Avadi ( around 10kms from Avadi Bus Teriminus)last week which required an immediate attention .

In response to the pathetic condition of the people there, a group of members made a plan to visit the orphanage and was well executed on 19th of this month(19.6.11).
Courtesy Foundation located at Morai in Avadi, consisted of 42 members which included 35 kids and 7 elders.
Members of UHF spent their time and celebrated their day wit them by cutting a cake followed by a magic show for the kids and finally with special lunch.UHF also provided necessary provisions to the orphanage and a stationery set to each kids as a token of encouragement.

It is evident from the photos that most part of the building is left incomplete due to lack of funds.
The management feels insecure staying in such unfinshed building. The management of Courtesy Foundation has requested Uhf to help in completing the building work and UHF has promised to do the needful.

We feel proud and happy to inform all our members that, we have provided financial support to two more students - our fifth and sixth beneficiaries – all this within the first year of having started our organization..

Preethi and Priya study in classes eight and seventh respectively at St Raphels Girls Hr. Sec school. The young siblings’ father tragically passed away a short time ago. Their mother,a daily wages labourer, finds it extremely difficult to make ends meet for the family and their educational expenses are an added burden. After we came to know of the family’s adverse situation, our organization has vowed to bear the entire educational expenses of the two young girls.

    UHF’S CONTRIBUTION IN NSS CAMP

  • uhf

  • This report details out United Hearts Foundation’s benevolent contribution to the students of the Keerapakkam Government Middle School during the NSS camp held on 24/2/2011.

To start with, we thank our NSS coordinator Dr.Hajra Beevi for giving us this opportunity to extend our help to the students of      Keerapakkam Government Middle School. The school has 250 students studying from grades 1 to 8.

Few UHF volunteers first approached the school headmaster for a start. He was requested to share his needs for the development of the school and as well as individuals in the village. He requested us to help him with getting educational games for the students. We made this happen by bringing few more UHF volunteers to the place where the NSS camp was held. Being in a NSS camp, our UHF volunteers became NSS volunteers and helped with NSS work such as surfacing the school ground.

Later, as promised to the headmaster we contributed a carom board and some educational games such as puzzles, building blocks, memory games etc. We also provided necessary stationery items to all the 250 students in person. We also spent time with the ABL school children (children from grades 1 to 5) by engaging them in various activities like drawing, writing etc.

Inspired by our foundation and its work, we received appreciation from the chief guests we had. Also we had few of our college mates and staffs willing to join our foundation. We finally end this report by calling this opportunity as another stepping stone for our foundation’s success.

“The only disability in life is a bad attitude.” - Scott Hamilton

Over the past few months, members of our organization have visited various orphanages around the city, providing these homes with essentials and spending time with the inmates. But the 28th of January provided a very different and touching experience for most of our members. A group of volunteers visited BHAVISHYA DHEEPAM, a home for specially abled people.

The visit turned out to be a very emotional and heart touching experience for the group. Located on the outskirts of the busy national highway and along the periphery of the Tambaram-Mudichur road, the home provides a peaceful and serene environment for the inhabitants. As many as 20 UHF members visited the home and it was indeed a very special and blessing day.

Few of our members were dumbstruck and overcome by emotions on seeing the challenges these people face and how they overcome their difficulties each and every day with resilience. Many of them actively played with the inmates trying to spread cheer and to being smiles on their faces. The primary motive behind this visit was to provide a bit of comfort for the mentally challenged people atleast for a few hours by interacting with them and also for us to understand the challenges and problems faced by them.
UHF also contributed necessary everyday items like Rice, dal, sugar, shampoo, oil, mosquito coils and dresses to the home. A large cake was arranged to be cut during the evening in order to create a joyous and cheerful atmosphere.
To make these special people enjoy the evening, our members played songs and created a enjoyable atmosphere. The inmates were egged on by our volunteers to dance to the songs and have a fun filled time. All members of the group interacted with the people belonging to the home, either by playing with them or by spending time by their sides speaking patiently to them.

In the first three months of its existence, our fledgling organization has been able to provide educational support to three high school students. We strive to provide both monetary support and other essentials such as books and stationeries based on the needs of the underprivileged school children.

L.Vignesh, a class XI student of a govt. school initially found it hard to continue his studies after tenth as his family of 5 entirely depended on his mother’s daily wages. But he was passionate about his studies and we felt it was our duty to help such a bright student. UHF took care of his schooling and stationary expenses and we are now happy to see that he constantly secures a top 3 rank in his class.

G.Deepika, a student of a govt. girls high school also faced similar problems in pursuing her education as her father, who is an auto rickshaw driver, could not bear her educational expenses. We provided the necessary monetary assistance and she is now one of the brightest students in her class.

G.Shanmugavel, a class VII student of Sri Mylai Karpagavalli School lost his father at a very early stage. His mother works as a dhobi and her earnings are barely enough to support Shanmugavel and his younger sibling. When we heard of his condition, we decided to step in and be of help for his education.

A crèche is also situated within the premises. To spread the joy of the New Year, a group of our volunteers visited the orphanage on the 1stof January. They welcomed the New Year by spending the entire day with the children and playing games with them.

A big New Year cake was cut in the morning, much to the joy of the little children. Then a painting competition and other games such as football, lemon and spoon and many more fun events were held.Later in the evening, snacks were provided to the children and the prizes for the children were distributed.
It was a very different New Year’s Day experience for most of the volunteers. The cherished memories are sure to remain in their hearts for a very long time.
